DR PETER CHIN
Peter Chin MBBS (Melb) FRACS is a Specialist Oncoplastic Breast and General Surgeon for Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty region. He specializes in oncoplastic breast cancer surgery and has a strong interest in laparoscopic (keyhole) hernia and gallbladder surgery, thyroid, melanoma and sentinel node procedures.
Peter is the Bay of Plenty's most experienced breast surgeon and has performed over 2,000 breast cancer operations since 2006. Accordingly, he is referred complex cases from throughout the Bay of Plenty region for his expertise. He is a leader in his field and his experience and caring nature ensures that you will be given the best and most comprehensive advice possible.

BREAST CANCER
Since 2006, Peter has performed over 2000 breast cancer operations in the Bay of Plenty. He is the lead surgeon in the Bay of Plenty DHB Breast Service and the region's Breast-Screening program. He regularly teaches modern breast surgery techniques to other surgeons and trainees in Australia and NZ. His significant experience ensures that his patients receive the latest and most comprehensive advice possible.

ONCOPLASTIC BREAST SURGERY
Peter specialises in the full range of Oncoplastic techniques, which enables the removal of a cancer whilst achieving a good cosmetic result at the same time. He trained at the prestigious Edinburgh Breast Unit and is one of the few breast surgeons in NZ who perform and teach advanced Oncoplastic procedures in Australia and NZ.
Peter has a strong interest in Therapeutic Mammaplasty, LICAP/LTAP perforator flap, Fat grafting as well as Implant and Lat Dorsi Flap reconstruction.

HEREDITARY BREAST CANCER
Peter is able to provide counselling about screening, imaging and preventative measures for women with high risk family history or proven genetic mutation. If appropriate, surgical options for prophylactic Mastectomy and the optimal choice of Reconstruction will be covered in detail.
HERNIA REPAIR
Peter is trained in all forms of hernia surgery which include open and keyhole techniques. He is one of
the first surgeon to introduce Laparoscopic (keyhole) inguinal hernia surgery in the Bay of Plenty. He has a thorough and balanced approach when recommending the appropriate surgery for you.
GALLBLADDER
The presence of gallstones can cause debilitating pain and keyhole surgery is the standard option for
removal of a gallbladder. Peter is highly experienced and has performed keyhole gallbladder surgery (Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy) for over 20 years.

THYROID
Thyroid surgery is a complex operation and requires expertise and skill which comes with experience. Peter has performed numerous thyroid operations in the Bay of Plenty and is able to advise you on the best course of action for the investigation and management of a thyroid lump.

MELANOMA / NODE DISSECTION
Surgery for melanoma includes excision of the melanoma, sentinel node biopsy and in some cases, removal of groups of lymph nodes. All treatment options will be discussed with you.
